ARARIMU
DEPARTING SOLDIER FAREWELLED Mr R. Rowe, who has been managing the creamery at Ararimu for the last six months and who has just been accepted for active service, was tendered a farewell by his friends on Friday, May 4th, at the residence of Mr and Mrs R. W. Robinson, who kindly gave the use of their house and piano for the occasion. Though the weather was somewhat threatening, a select littlo company gathered to show their respect and admiration for the young soldier and with musical items, songs, recitations and dancing a most enjoyable evening was spent. The dainty and ample- refreshments provided by the ladies of the district left nothing lacking on that score, while the music supplied by Messrs Harker (piano) and Forbes (violin) would do credit to any city concert ball.
During the evening Mr Rowe was presented with a handsome case of pipes, Mr M. Markham making: the presentation on behalf of the district. Mr Rowe, in acknowledging the gift, referred to the happy time ho had had in Ararimu and the kindly treatment he had received from the people. He would, he said, treasure the gift he had received as a memento of his stay and would try to do his duty to his country when he reached the front. The singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem closed a very pleasant evening. Owing to abundance of feed the creamery is to continue running during the month of May, and is now under the charge of Mr Dickson. As the creamery commenced the season's operations in July of last year the time seems fast approaching when milk or cream will be supplied in Ararimu the whole year round the same as in ether places. ■♦
