RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL

The ordinary bi-monthly meeting of the Eaglan County Council was held at the County offices, Ngaruawahia on Wednesday last, when there were present Councillors Campbell Jobnstone (chairman), C. Bwann, J. R. Lowry, A. McKinnon, D. A. Moore, A. Cobourne, W. Wilson, C. W. Eolfe, W. Seavill, G, B. Morrison, C. C. Otway, with the clerk (Mr Marsland). Before commencing the business of the Council the Chairman stated that since their last meeting their clerk (Mr H. Marsland) had undergone an operation but he was glad to say that he had recovered. On behalf of the Council he welcomed him back again. Mr Marsland briefly returned thanks for the Cha ; rman's expressions of goodwill. A report re Hamilton's deviation scheme will be found under our Onewhero heading.

CRUBHTXO. METAL Messrs McSheen Bros, Onewhero, asked if the Council would assist them to crush metil during the year by paying, say, 75 per cent on the amount crushed.

The Assistant Engineer, Public Works Department, notified that his Department had decided, "that no portion of any grant or subsidy for metalling shall be paid until the metal is actually on the road, and the work of spreading completed," The Council decided to pay the contractors 7o per cent on the amount of metal crushed during the winter as it would thus ensure a supply of metal for the roads next season, enabling works now in hand to be expended. FINANCE

Accounts amounting to £4460 12s 81 for the period ending 9th May were passed lor payment Tho Treasurer's report showed the amount of notice rates outstanding on Ith May to be £2079 5a 2d.

The amounts available for works on 9th May in each riding included Onewhero£l3s Ms 10J, and Pukekawa £ll 5s Bd.
