"OURSELVES."
Wi; have received several congratulatory letters from subscribers congratulating us on the improved reading nualities of the paper—in a large extent due to the extension of tlio sphere of our business to the Otahuhu and Papatoetoe districts. One correspondent is good enough to say " I know of no other country paper that is so readable as
yours." We desire to pc : nt out however, that is only by the united cooperation of the people of the district the paper serves that " The Times " can be expected to maintain its present standard. Owing to the increased price of material the fourpage issue of" The Times " means a cost to us of .'d per copy for paper alone and with Friday's supplement Id per copy. Similarly, cost of production has been augmented. A newspaper is not a philanthropic or chaiitable concern. It has to pay its way or else it will cease to exist and it can only pursue its career by support being accorded it by advertisers and by the general public assisting it with printing orders. We would accordingly ask all those who appreciate " The Times" as a local journal to demonstrate their approval in a practical form by supporting us both with advts. and with printing orders and we guarantee that the latter will bo carried out at reasonable charges and with a degree of workmanship that will give entire satisfaction. We mako this appeal feeling sure that it will meet with an appreciative responso seeing that job printing is one of tlio most helpful of a newspaper's branches of maintenance.
