OTAHUHU'S NEW MAYOR.
Mr Alfred McDonald, Otahuhu's new Mayor, is 48 years of age and was born in Auckland, his parents having come out to New Zealand from Scotland. He was educated at the Newmarket Pnblic School. Associated, as he was, with the Epsom Road Board for 11 years, during which time he frequently acted as chairman, he brings a knowledge of local bcdy work with him on taking up the reins of the mayoral office. In his private life Mr McDonald is a devotee of music and for the past 15 years has been an enthusiastic member of the Auckland Male Choir and he also acted a 9 conductor and choirmaster of StLuke's Presbyterian Church, Remuera, for ten years. At present he is is choirmaster of the Otahuhu Presbyterian Church. A horticulturist by occupation, Mr
McDonald "occupies~the~'position"of managing director of Messrs Bennett and McDonald, Ltd. (late Bennett and Green), the well-known nurserymen of Remuera. Apart from two years spent in Melbourne to gain an extended business experience Mr McDonald has spent the greater part of his life in the Auckland district, and it is safe to assume that he will be a wise and careful administrator of the Borough's affairs, whilst his urbanity of spirit, his geniality and well-balanced mind in dealing with the multifarious duties, which will devolve upon him as Mayor, will command the respect of one and all, and the Mayoress (Mrs McDonald) can be relied upon to prove of invaluable help as co-worker with His Worship in the many social activities of the BdVough.
