DOG RESCUES CREW OF SINKING TUG.
BIT PERISHES HIMSELF
After giving au alarm which uved the lives of several men, Archie, a Scotch collie, wag drowned in the Kill von Ktill, in New York Harbour, recently, as the tugboat Archio Crossman, belonging to the Tyee Towing Campany, foundered. Tlio boat had been moored at high tide over soino piles which had been set at the foot of Front Street, Bayonne, N.J. When the tide went out at night the tugboat was capsized by the piles. All on board were asleep, but Andrew Rockett. a deck liand, was awakened by Archie. The dog barked .aid pulled his master's arm, and Rockett jumped out of his berth, awakened Henry Denning, the captain, and tlio other men aboard the tug. All managed to swim to shore safely except Archie. It is believed that must have been caught in the cabin when it tilled with water, for he was fine swimmer, and could have reached shoro ensily if he had been in the open water. His master, Andrew Rockett, said: — "'Archie was the most intelligent dog that ever lived, outside, of Don, the talking dog. I had him four years, and lie was always with me. If it had not f>oeii for bis barking and shaking ine by the arm, I probably would have been drowned, and the rest of the men, too. Ho gave his life to save us."
