BUCKLAND

A must successful social was held in the Hall on the 13th inst to farewell Trooper \V. J. Jefferies, who was home on final leave. There was a large gathering of friends and relations, some of whom motored down 'from Waerenga. Mr. H. H. D. Wily •was chairman, and in the course of his remarks referrred to the many ,«ood qualities, of the jniest of the evening. On behalf of all present he wished him good luck and a .-afe return bom- 1 . Mr. E. Piggott also cave a short speech in his usual forceful manner. The following contributed items to the enjoyment of those prosent, viz.:—Songs by Misses Bagnall and Avery, Messrs T. Walker and Roy Johnston, choruses by Buckland Glee Cliih. recitations by Mr. Budge, flute v'll" by Mr. C. Spree, pianoforte duet by Misses Allan and Home. After Clipper was handed round and done full justice to. the hall was cleared fi>r dancing, which was indulged in until the small hours of the morning. Our local storekeeper and postmaster, Mr. Home, has lately made many improvements i" his store, and the improved facilities in the post office department will be greatly appreciated by those doing business there.
