The attention of our readers is drawn to an important land auction sale to be held in Auckland on Friday, the 20th inst, when the North Auckland Farmers' Co-op., Ltd., will offer for sale amongst various other properties the well-known " Winchmore " homestead on Pukekohe Hill This property comprises one of the best residences in the district and the land is second to none. For full particulars see advertisement. At the recent theory of music examinations held under the auspices of Trinity College, London, all the pupils from the Pukekohe Convent, who sat for examination, succeeded in passing, four gaining honours. 100 marks constituted the maximum and 80 was the minimum for honours. The names of the students and the respective number of marks awarded were as follows : —Junior Division: Desmond Clarke 90 marks, Elsie Jeffares 87, Annie Revell 72, Leslie Roadleyfß. Preparatory Division : Harry Papesch 90, Edgar Russell 80. Whilst on her way to the Pukekohe Public School on Tuesday morning last a young girl student from Pukekohe East, named Beatrice Biddick, was thrown heavily to the ground from her horse as the result of the animal slipping whilst rounding the corner at the junction of King and Queen Streets. She was picked up in a dazed condition by Mr Henry Dell, who witnessed the accident and after treatment at Mr Dell's residence near at hand I was conveyed back to her home. She had sustained a severe shaking but is now making good progress towards recovery. Although a contest is assured for the coming mayoral election in Pukekohe there seems a dearth of candidates for the eight seats on the Borough Council. Crs Hubbard, Bilkey and Barter are expected to offer themselves for re-election and it is understood that Messrs J. T. Stembridge, R. F. Webster, and A. P. Daysh will offer their services to the ratepayers. The names of Messrs T. B. Hurley (a former member of the Council) and A. F Brown are also mentioned as those of possible other candidates. A comfortable garden seat of roomy capacity has been presented to the Pukekohe Bowling Club by the President (Mr Frank Perkins) and was used for the first time yesterday. It is of a type that would be well suited for seating accommodation in the streets of the borough and a suggestion is made by Mr Perkins that if the Borough Council installed such facilities the public would much appreciate the same.
