HOPE FOR THE BALD.
"Hair Sewn Here" may. in months to come, be quite a familiar signpost, for Dr. Siekely, of the St. Stephane Hospital at Budapest, has evolved an elaborate cure for baldness. He has already planted in the head of one patient as. many as 60,000 hairs. One hundred hasrs are drawn through punctures in the scalp to every square centimetre, and, as both ends are left free, the number is thus two hundred, or over 1000 hairs to each square inch. The finest of gold wires forms a most important part'of the process. In the middle of the thread-like wire is attached a long hair from a woman's head. The gold loop, or knot, acts as an anchor, and. after sterilisation, is introduced into the subcutaneous tissue, where it is slightly twisted, and holds the hair in permanent position. Five hundred hairs can be planted into the scalp within three-quarters of an hour. The golden wires used are so marvellously fine that, after fixing 50,000 hairs, the amount of gold in the scalp does not exceed one gramme.
