BUCKLAND.
ESSENTIAL INDUSTRIES AND WAR. A meeting of tho Buckland Branch of the Farmers 1 Union was held on March 10th, an average attendance of members being present. A circular from tho Executive as to forming sub-Provincial Districts was read and was favourably discussed.
Correspondence in regard to forming local committers to assist with cases coming before the Appeal Boards - was also received from the Executive. The scheme was not supported by the members present, a motion being carried requesting the Union Executive to urge upon the Government the necessity of nationalisation of laud during the war, and the organisation of all labour so as to carry on essential industries such being the only means of keeping up the production of the country, and safe-guarding the interest of men who have enlisted WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE
The monthly meeting of the Buckland Branch of the Auckland Women's Patriotic League was held in the Hall on March Ist. In the unavoidable absence of the President Mrs W. V. Davy presided. Ten ladies were present and the usual business was attended to. A request from the Leaguu asking for a donation of saleable articles for the Victoria League's Red Cross shop in Auckland, was received. It was decided to give every assistance and it was arranged that members would attend at the Buckland Hall on March 28th to receive and pack same. Any suitable gifts will be thankfully received. Work handed in was as follows : Socks: Mrs Driver 8 pairs, Mrs McKean 7 pairs, Mesdames Avery, Harris, Johnston, Harper, Miss L. Johnston, 2 pairs each ; Mesdames Jesser, J Barber, Milroy, King, Miss Johnston, 1 pair each. Caps : Miss McKean 2. Muslin singlets : Miss Johnston, Mrs King, Mrs Waterhouse, Mrs Davy, and Mrs J. Wylie, 5 each ; Miss Neal 10. The following contributions were reported : Donations for Wool—Mrs Jamieson, 15s; Mrs Melville ss; Mrs Haire, Mrs Souster, Mrs J. Wylie, Mrs King, Mrs Barber, Mrs Hanfiing and Mrs Harris, 2s 6d each ; Mrs Davy, Mrs Bland, Mrs Peters, Mr Sarich and Mrs Neal, 2s each ; Mrs Backhouse, Is 6d; Mrs Fellowes and Mrs Hill, Is each. Dominion Gifts —Mesdames H. H. D. Wily, D. Hamilton, Jamieson, Lloyd and Waterhouse, 5s each ; Mesdames Davy, Neal, Smith, King, R. Wright and Tetley 2s 6d each.
