At the Military Board at Hamilton yesterday Mr F. Lauer, jun , farmer, of Te Akatea, son of Mr Fred Lauer, of Pukekohe, appealed on the ground of undue hardship. Appellant was one of four brothers, three of whom had gone to the front, and one had returned permanently disabled. When the war broke out they had a family conference, and decided that appellant should remain at home and work his own farm at Te Akatea and assist his father at Pukokohe. He had married, since the war, and therefore in the eyes of the law was a single man. His wife had five brothers, and they were all at the front, two of them being wounded. Appellant's father gave evidence. The Board complimented the father upon the excellent record of his family, aud granted exemption sine die.
