Anzac Cup Competition.
Pukekohe v. West End.
The first raitch for possession of the handsome trophy known as the Anzic Cup recently presented lor competition between the Pukekohe and West End (Auckland) Clubs by Messrs 1 A. Motion and A. B. Baiter (Pukekohe) and Tonkin (West End) was played on the Pukekohe Bowling Green last Saturday, the terms of gift being that the Pukekohe Club should be the original holders and that the Cup should be played for twice in a season, th 9 winning club to take possession of the Cup on each occision and to be the " hime " club for any subsequent match. Victory on Saturday rested with the West End Club by 55 points to 43. The scores of the three rinks were as folio wh, the tames of the Pukekohe players being mentioned first in each instance, viz. : Qribble, Keith, J. Boulstonand Armstrong lost to Clarke, Scott, Courts and Beecrof', 16—18. Woollett, O'Loughlen, D. Boulston and M Wright lost to Aitken, Noton, Maher andLangford, 13—24. Coady, Perkins, Jos Adams and Hewson beat Cook*, P. Dirby, Colthursi an 1 Tonkin, 14-13. The green was in great order thanks to the attention that had been bestowed on it by Messrs M. Wright and Q. Armstrong and a liberal display of bunting added to the picturesqueneis of the scene, whilst in the pavilion afternoon tea tables had been most daintily laid out by several ladies.
Prior to the start of play Mr Frank Perkins (President of the Pukekohe Club), in a few neat words, extended a welcome to the visitors and hoped that the cap contests would tend to cement the kindly feeling that had always existed between the two Clubs.
Mr Tonkin, on behalf of the visitors, express d appreciation of Mr Perkins' kind words and stated that they were always pleased to come to Pukekohe where they knew they met real good " sports." After three cheers, on the call of Mr Perkins, had been given for the donors of the cup, play commenced. At the close of the afternoon Mr Tonkin alluded to the extreme friendly way in which the contest had been conducted and whilst taking pride in his Club's victory he congratulated the Pukekohe members on their play. Mr Perkins, in acknowledging Mr Tonkin's remarks, congratulated the visitors on their win but hoped that the cup would be wrested from them when Pukekohe visited West End a few weeks hence.
Cheers having been given for the ladies who had served afternoon tea the visitors left to catch the train for their return to Auckland.
The following teams have been selected to represent Pukekohe v. Onehunga in an inter-club match to be played on the Pukekohe green on Thursday afternoon next, viz. : Guest, Moreland, Penny, and J. Adams.
