NATIONAL EFFICIENCY BOARD.

Drury District Members.

Drury, to include Pukekohe and the main part qf Franklin County, has been constituted a district for the purposes of the National Efficiency Board, the trustees appointed for the same being Messrs J. Flanagan and R Lyons (chairman and member respectively of the Franklin County Council) and Mr J. Batty (chairman of the Karaka Road Board).

At the meeting of the Karaka Road Board on Thursday Mr D. Jamieson proposed a vote of congratulation to Mr J. Batty (Chairman of the Board) on his being appointed as one of the members of the National Efficiency Board. It was, said Mr Jamieson, not only a honour to the Board itself but also to the district. He felt sure Mr Batty would do his best in the interest of absent soldiers, and as a practical farmer his experience would be invaluable to the new Board.

Mr Schlaepfer, in seconding the motion, thoroughly endorsed all Mr Jamieson had said and felt sure Mr Batty would do his part for the good of all those who went to the war.

The motion having been carried, Mr Batty, in thanking the speakers for their kind words, said he felt proud that such confidence had been bestowed in him. The posit'on was one in which he felt he could take a deep interest. He would whan appealed to at all times give his best opinion on any matter submitted to him. His colleagues Crs Flanagan and Lyons were both practical men and he was glad that the selection of these gentlemen had been made. Speaking of the work in front of the new Board he expressed the opinion that where any soldier desired any particular farmer to supervise his farm he thought the particular request should be acceded to. Some there were who were experienced in dairying and others in other branches, and it would be only right that each in their particular knowledge should be consulted in the best interests of the absentees. He would do his best to see that the soldier had his best services.
