VALEDICTORY SOCIAL

One of the largest gatherings evor known to havo assembled in the Waerenga Public Hall was recorded on February 28th when local residents met to bid farewell to Mr Alfred Freegard and Messrs Harry, Archie, and Bert Fretwell, who were leaving to join the 26th Reinforcements. Mr W. Dimmock (violin) and Mrs Hamilton, and Messrs Bycroft and Keith (piano) supplied excellent music, and excellent songs were contributed by Mr 801 l (Maugatangi.) Mr Brown impressed the boys with the duty that lay before them and the just cause for which thoy were going to tight and Mr Horrocks, in a brief and tactful speech, paid a just tribute to Mr Freegard and also Privates Chas. Sampson, N. Storey and E. Pope who were present on their final loavo. Mr Freegard was the recipient of a wristlet watch and each of the other boys received a present. Mr Freegard ably responded on behalf of the recipients. Great crodit i* reflected on Mr Jack Keith, who most efficiently porforinod the dutios of M.C. The siuging of Auld Lang Syne in the " wee ama 'ours " of the morning concluded one of the most pleasant evenings over known iu the district.
