At the Methodist Conference in Wellington yesterday the Rev. W. G Marten was appointed Minister at Pukekohe and tho Rev. G. F. Jones at Papakura Mr B. Charlesworth, piano tuner, representing English and French Piano Agency, Auckland, is visiting Pukekohe, for one week only Orders may be left at "Times" Office.—Advt.

Tenders ate invited for the supply of afternoon tea, refreshments, fruit, sweets, etc , at the Tuakau Patriotic Sports on Saturday, March 31st Particulars appear in an advt in this iseue.

The death has occurred at a camp in England of Pte H. B. W. Barter, a member of the N.Z Expeditionary Force. The deceased was a nephew of Mr A. B. Barter, of Pukekohe, with whom his sister resides.

In our report of the recent Pukekohe Show Mies Lily Smith should have been credited with the second prize for knitted Balaclava cap in the section for girls under 18 years, instead of third prize as stated. A special screening of " The Battle of the Bomme " will be shown as an extra attraction at the Premier Hall on Saturday night next. This is an official film and is recommended by Lloyd George who says it is an epic of gallantry that a'l should see. " Ihe Battle Cry of Peace," t« be shown at the Premier Hall tomorrow (Wednesday) evening, is one of the most costly productions that has yet been shown in Pukekohe When this picture was shown at the King's in Auckland the prices of admission were doubled but no extra charge is being made here.

Ihe Harvest Festival celebrations held in the Salvation Army Hall, Pukekoho, last Monday and Tuesday were in every way highly successful. At Monday's meeting, provided over by Mr J. Pilkington, many persons were unable to gain admission so crowded was the gathoring. A large and varied collection of fruit and vegetables, donated by friends, wore sold by auction by Mr J. T. Stembridge. An interesting programme of musical items was carried out by members of local churches. On Tuesday a children's concert took place which was well attended. Altogether the Harvest < Festival was encouraging and the local officers (Capt. and Mrs Elford) appreciate the help givon by many friends of the Army.

Mr C. K. Lawrie intimates, by advt. in this issue, that in response to requests made him he will be a candidate for the offico of Mayor of Pukekohe at the forthcoming election At last Thursday's meeting of the Franklin County Council a blackberry clearing campaign on the roads was authorised and defaulting owners of adjoining properties are to be called upon to pay the cost. The Engineer (Mr J. F. McArthur) was also instructed, as the outcome of a recent fatal accident at Maungatawhiri, to report on any instances of cream or milk cans being left on the side of the road in poEitions dangerous to traffic. At the Pukekohe Methodist Church on Wednesday evening last a large gathering of friends assembled to bid farewell to Private J. Crooks, who was on final leave The chair was taken by Mr T. G. Usher. Mr J. Pilkington, on behalf of the Sunday Bchool and the Christian Endeavour Society, presented Private Crooks with an electro-plated teapot and a nickel combination soldier's knife, wishing him on behalf of the Church God Bpeed and a safe return. Vocal and instrumental items were rendered by Mesdames Vant, Pilkington, Curnow, Gibson, Richards, the Misses D Harding, E. Pi'kington, and Messrs E. Curnow, Robert Vant, C. H. Mee, and Masters Herbert Vant and Nelson Mee. On the motion of Mr J. Patterson a vote of ihanks was accorded to all who had contributed towards the evening's enjoyment.

At the Carnival Tea Rooms, Pukekohe, last Thursday evening a large gathering assembled to bid farewell to several local " boys " who were on final leave. The Soldiers' Sendoff Committee provided an excellent supper, which was well served by the lady proprietors of the Tea Rooms, and presentations were made to each of the guests, viz, Sergt. Madill, Lance-Corpl. W. H. Hawke, Privates J. Weston, A. Cooke, J. Crooks and J. Adams. The gifts took the form of a shaving outfit and the Mayor (Mr H. G. R. Mason), in making the presentations, wished the recipients good luck and a safe return. He mentioned that others, viz., Privates F. C. Baker, J. C. Graham and W. Sommerville were unfortunately unable to be present. The recipients suitably replied, expressing their thanks for the kindness extended to them. Mr W. H. Butler, a visitor from Bristol, England, wished the boys a safe return and referred to the need of a continuous supply of men to win the war. He extended an invitation to any of the soldier boys to visit him at his home when in England, promising them his best hospitality. Messrs C. K. Lawrie and R. F. Webster also spoke. Songs were rendered by Miss Aldridge, Messrs Luke Wilson, J. Brown and Fear, a recitation was given by Mrs Butler, and Miss Ivy Brown contributed a pianoforte solo. The singing of the National Anthem and " Auld Lang Syne "' brought the proceedings to a close.
