CLEVEDON.
Corpl. W. J. Glenn, who returned to camp on Saturday on the conclusion of his final leave, was entertained at a pleasant social evening and dance held at Mr and Mrs Paton's on Friday last. Songs and instrumental music together with a dauce served to pass a pleasant time away. Everybody wished the •' Corporal'' good luck and a sate return. The annual picnic in connection with the Methodist Bible Class was held at Mataitai on Woinosdty, Febiuary 28th, and, the day beit;g perfect, the picnickeis spent a most enjoyable day at the seaside. The Wairoa South School had their annual picnic last Thursday. The teacher planned the arrangements perfectly. Mr P. C. Waters, of Clevedon, who recently had occasion to appeal after being drawn in the ballot, had his case adjourned sine die by the Auckland Board. Having three brothers at the front, one of whom was killed at Galhpoli, and being the only son left to support his aged parent", the chairman of the Board congratulated Mr Waters on belonging to such a patriotic family. Maraetai beach has been a favourite camping spot this summer, vari ous parties having been in temporary residence there since Xmas. The labt to leave were Messrs Bryan, Crispe and party, who broke up camp on Monday of last week At a meeting of the ladies of the district, and more particularly of those connected with flower show work, it was decided to approach the Clevedon A. and P. Society with a view to the Society taking over the usual Sj ring Flower Show and combining it with their Stock Show. Accordingly a deputation of three ladies, Mosdames Low, Crispe and A. Bell were appointed to' confer with the President of iho A. and P. Society (Mr C. C. Munro) and to place the views of the meeting before him so that the matter could be brought before the members of the Society. Subsequently at a meeting of the Show Executive Committee the majority were in favour of amalgamating and it now only remains for the general meeting to express its favour for tho proposal to be given effect to at the next annual Show. This should result in a much more attractive exhibition and au increased attendance as a greater interest will be attached to the Show by competition being provided for all branches of the community.
Mr A. McNicol, who recently had his leg broken by a kick from a young horse, is now making satisfactory progress.
