PAPAKURA.

PAPAKURA PATRIOTIC LEAGUE The adjourned annual meeting of the above League was held on Thursday, February 22nd, in tho Parish Hall. The president, Mr Alfred Willis, occupied the chair. The treasurer presented the balance sheet, audited and certificated by the Government auditors, Messrs Holmes and Morris, and this gave an indication of the activities of the League for the past year. The chairman reviewed the work done during the year and mentioned that during that time, the League had collected, and received in contributions the sum of £537 6s, whilst the sum expended amounted to £465 lis. He acknowledged the indebtedness of the League to Mrs Mears and Mrs Gilbert Wilson and the ladies associated with them for their efforts in raising £l5O for patriotic purposes, by means of a gift eale. Mrs Shanaghan had contributed £77, the proceeds of plant sales held by her. £7 had been received from Miss Anderson, as a result of a social held by her and other ladies. The Basket Ball Club had collected £3 3s od, whilst the tennis club had donated £ls. The two concerts I given by the Manurewa Musical | c'ocietv had reached a total amount i of £27 13s fid.

The monthly contributions to the Belgian Fund and the Local Distress Fund had been well maintained throughout the year. With reference to expenditure, the chairman mentioned that. the following amounts had been paid out during the year: Beligian relief £IOB, besides £lO3 contributed as a result of the special Christmas appeal, making a total of £2ll to the fund; French Red Cross £sl 2s lid; Servian relief £10; Russian Prisoners' Aid Fund £26 6s 4d; Dominion Gifts £23 2s 6d; Christmas gifts to soldiers £8 15s; North Sea Relief Fund £7l 8s 3d ; British Ked Cross £35 ; also 25 hussifs had been made and sent each month to the Auckland Women's Patriotic League. The sum of £l7 18s 6d had been spent in relieving local distress The balance in hand now amounted to £235 14s Id.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The present executive, officers and committee were re-elected for a further term of office.
