The blackleg regulation were the source of an unpleasant surprise to some exhibitors, whose young stock had come trom a distance. The Agricultural Department's Inspector put in an appearance to enforce the stipulation that uninuculated calves eotering an infected area, viz., Franklin County, could not be taken away unless they bad been inoculated against blackleg. Several animals have accordingly been detained in the showground pending the necessary operation being performed. It was the townspeople and country residents in close proximity to Puk.kohe who, naturally under the circumstanc.s, were absentees at the Show on Saturday. The rain set in at a time that they were ahout to make a start for the showground, so it is not to be wotr'ered at that they stayed away. Their defection to a great extent accounted for the gate-money shrinkage, and if sunshine had prevailed record receipts would probaby have been chronicled. As it was the "gate" for the two days totalled £lB2 4>.

Although a faling-off 1:1 gate money was the natural outcome of the rain it is none too reassuring to the Committee that such receipts are dwindling. la 1912 the "gate" totalled £216, in 1913 £246 (the recora), in 1914 £242, in 1915 £243, and last year £226.
