FRANKLIN A. & P. SHOW

In an age wfcen ogticulture forms such a prominent faccor in tbs life of the Dominion tbe existence of a Society which encourages and stimulates tbe life blood of our nation deserves support from all sections of tha community which it directly and indirectly Berves. ' It is not surpiisig therefore that the Franklin A. and P. Society should annually occupy a higher position, eclipsing as it does the work of other orgar isatioiis in usefulness and prosperity. While the Franklin A. and P. Society primarily exists tor the promotion of egriculure, it serves a 'dual purpose in that it provides a rendezvous for social enjoyment. In this connection tbe second day of the Show has therefore rightly gained for itself the name of "People's Day." The Society is happily foitunate iu serving a district so rich in agricultural and pastoral possibilities, while its comparative nearness to the city of Auckland combine to enhance its value as an educational force. The Location ot the Show, too, adjacent to the Pukekobe Railway Station, is a fßctor decidedly in its favour, the transference ot valuable live stocK by rail being accomplished without delay and inconvenience. This, apart lrom the advantages to passengers, is worth noting when handling ot valuable stock is concerned. It is these provident arrangements which serve to retain the bold th« Society haß on its ever increasing patronage.

lUE EXECUTIVE. Fortunate is the Society in bavins at its head such a genial President as Mr C. K. Lawrie, with an Executive whore agricultural and business experience in no soqbll way contribute to the Society's success. In Mr J. M. Baxter the Society moreover has an ideal Secretary. Bis practical knowledge of show workings ensures practically a perfection of arrangements, whilst the ever ready manner in which he even undertakes manual tasks on the ground marks him as an official of rare value. Mention must also be made ot the zealous work performed bv Mrs Baxter in assisting in the secretarial duties.

ENTRIES. There ib an encouraging increase in the number of those entries most vital to the interests of the Society, and especially is this so in the light hoises. The number in this section is no lees than 331 as compared with 293 last year. Cattle total 343 as against 306 last year, while sheep also show a decided advance. In the cattle section the Jersey breed holds hrst place in point of numbers, although thia year the Holstein representatives provide a marked increase, lowing that in certain areas "the black and white" is gaining in favour. Franklin has a high reputation for its cattle, and the fine type of well-ribbed, deepset specimens shown agaiu prove that the Waikato csn well hold its own both for beef and dairying purposes. Light horses are the great feature of the Show, ai.d although there is a slight falling off in the draught section the animals forward are mUHCularlv framed ot fine stamina, goo.l pulling powers and true to type. As a class they are far above the usual standard. It ,„ atter all quality that counts.

TKADE EXHIBITS. Among the exhibits by Messrs Cooper and Curd, Pukekohe, who have a high reputation tor firstclass workmanship, are a doubleBeated buggy with removable back seats and adaptable for pole or shafts This vehicle Is substantially

Those on exhibition are a six-cylinder touring model, £435, a four-cylinder model, £330, and a four-cylinder touring model at £320.

Mr E. Allan, of Buckland, whose reputation as a reliable seedsman is well established, is exhibiting farm and garden seeds, also pot plants. Trie best recommendation is that Allan's are "Good Seeds," and those who have not hitherto patronised him would do well to give him a trial. Mei'sra Arthur Yates and Co., Ltd., Auckland, who cater for a large number of people throughout the Auckland district, have on exhibit a range of seeds for which tbe firm are celebrated. Farmers woold do well to examine their new season's grass and clover seeds, cleaned oy their modern machinery. Messrs Gallagher, Howe and Moore, of Pukekohe, exhibit the Hupmobile eight-cylinder touring car, £450, which is claimed to be the best on the market. It has an established record and farmers and others desirous of purbasiog a car should inspect this firm's stand.
