STOCK SALE REPORT.
Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report:— We held our fiist tsheep fair of the season at Tuakau on Monday, and yarded 6422 bheep and lambs. Several lots failed to come forward on account of the flood. There was a very large attendance of buyers, and we report a record sale, prices being from 7 s to 10s per head lighter than at the corresponding sale last year. Four and six-tooth ewes brought from £1 16s to £1 18s, the latter price being obtained by Mr L. L. A 1 en ; best two-tooth ewes, £1 158 6d to £1 18s 3d, the latter figure being realised by Mr L. W. Keals There were 2471 ewes from Messrs L. W. Keals, F. T. Wells, L. and A. Allen, S. S. Brewster, A. R. Watson, E. H. Mason, Thomas Logan, G. Cole Baker, E. Dufaur, M. Cox, M. G. Orr, and G. Hunter, which averaged £1 16s 2d, and a line of 621 full-mouth ewes from Mr Mr S. H. Crawford averaged £1 13s sd. Small fresh full-mouth ewes £1 13s to £1 15s ; older ewes, £1 10s £ll2s 6d; fai'ing-mouth ewes£l 17s to £1 198 6d ; culls, £1 Is to £1 ss, only two pens beicg sold at these figures; fat and forward wethers, £1 13s 6d to £1 158 9d, Mr G. ColeBaker being the vendor at the lastnamed price; 2-tooth wethers, £l 8s to £ I 13s; woolly lambs, best £l Is 6dto £1 3s; smaller 17s to £1; shorn lambs 17s 6d to £l, smaller 13s to 16s, small and weedy 10s to 12s 6d. On Wednesday at our weekly Weatfield fat stock market we sold fat cattle to the number of 401 head, comprising 287 steers, 108 cows and heifers and 6 bulls. There were many consignments of extra prime ox beef. Competition was strong throughout, with values fully up to late rates. Choice ox sold to £2 10s 6d, prime £2 7s 6d to £2 9a 6; rough and ordinary beef, £1 18s to £2 ss; cows and heifers, £2 2s to £2 7s; steers ranged in price from £l2 15s to £22 ; cows and heifers, £8 10s to £l6 ; bulls, £lO 10s to £l9 ss. The highest averages for steers included: 8 from Mr W. Wright, Otaua, £l9 Is 3d; 16 from Mr H. £. Heed, Waerenga, £l9 2s; 8 from Mr C. G. Robertson, Otaua, £l9 7s6d; 7 from Mr M. Costar, Papakura, £lB 3s 6d ; 5 from Mr G. J. Bond, Karaka, £lB 6s 6d; 16 from Mr A. Muir, jun., Takanini, £l7 4s 6d; 8 from Mr R. T. Reid, Waiuku £ls 15s; 7 from Mr Joseph Logan, Onewhero, £ls 13s 7d. The sheep pens were filled with a nice class of mutton. There was an improved demand, prime mutton being better worth. Extra heavy prime wethers, £1 19s to £2 0s 9d ; heavy prime wethers £1 17s to £1 18s 9d; medium to heavy wethers £l 15s to £1 16s 9d; light £1 15s to £ I 17s 9d; best heavy prime ewes, £1 14s 6d to £1 17s 9d ; good ewes, £1 lis 6d to £1 14s; other ewes, £1 Is to £1 10s. 1579 sold. There was a fair supply of lambs, which sold freely at ruling prices. Best heavy, £1 8s 6d to £ I lis (a small lot from Mr Thos. Hen wood made £l 17s); good lambs, £1 5s 9d to £1 8s; lighter and unfinished, £1 Is 6d to £1 58; small, 15s 9d to £l.
360 sold. Fat and young calves were penned in average numbers and maintained late values. No runners sold. Heavy vealers made from £6 to £7 17s 6d ; medium, £4 10s to £5 17s 6d ; lighter £3 to £4 7a 6d; light, £2 2s to £2 17s 6d; small and fresh-dropped, 5s to £2. 73 sold. Figs of all classes came forward in full numbers and sold freely at late quotations. Choice baconers made from £3 12 to £4 6s; others, £3 to £3 10s; large porkers, £2 10s to £2 18s; small, £l 18s to £2 8s; slips, £1 5s to £1 16s; weaners 8s to £1 4s. 299 sold.
