PATUMAHOE.

As the result of last Saturday's heavy rain, road connection between Patumahoe and Waiau was disorganised. Through a wash-out the approach on the Waiau side to the new bridge on Brady's, road (Sandy Cutting) a gap of some 3ft or 4ft was created between the bridge structure and the roadway and traffic was rendered impossible. Repairs, however, were in progress yesterday. Similarly on what is known as the " straight road " a wash-out at Farrington's cutting precluded transit. An alternative route to Waiau, involving an extra distance of some 2\or 3 miles was, however, available by means of Cuff's- Drury roads The first truckload of goods carried over the new Waiuku line to Patumahoe arrived yesterday in the form of a consignment from Messrs Kempthorne, Prosser and Co.'s manure works at We&theld to Messrs P. Henry and Son, the Company's local agents. It is understood that small quantities of goods, not necessarily a truckload, will be accepted for delivery or despatch* The facilities provided for the railway are welcomed by the fact that freightage charges will be less than the cost of transit to and from Pukekohe, whilst there will also be a saving on the wear and tear of the roads.
