PUKEKOHE BOWLING CLUB
A match was played on the Pukekohe bowling green on Wednesday between three rinks of the Pukekohe Club and of the Remuera Club, the home team in each case being successful with a gross total of 78 points to 53. The scores were as follows, Pukekohe players being mentioned first in each instance, viz.:— O'Loughlen, J. Roulston, J. Adams and M. Wright beat W. King, Davis, Baker and McCallum, 23—20. Perkius, Barter, Baker and Armstrong beat Clarke, Mahoney, J. M. King and Mcßobie, 23—20. Lawrie, Penny, D. Roulston and Hewson beat Headley, Yickerman, Dart and Wooller, 22—13.
On Wednesday also three rinks of the Pukekohe Club journeyed to Northcote, where they played three teams of the Waitemata Club, the Pukekohe men winning by two rinks to one, with a gross score of 71 points to 60. The successful skips were J. J. Coady and C. Clarke, J. H. Keith being defeated.
The innovation of evening bowls drew a large attendance to the Pukekohe Green on Wednesday night, when with the brilliant illumination of eix incandescent mantle lamps lent by Mr F. Perkins a challenge match was played between two teams that bad recently been touring at tournaments. The result was that O'Loughlen, J. Adams, Hewson and M. Wright beat Perkins, J. and D. Boulston and Armstrong, 20—17. Play was very keen, the scores being 17 all on the 20th head. Ihe subsequent proceedings were of a convivial nature, several ladies providing supper. Arrangements for a tournament to-morrow and Monday (Anniversary Day) have fallen through owing to a shortage of entries from outside clubs.
