Mr Cecil Roadley returned to Pukekohe on Sunday .on the conclusion of a fortnight's holiday spent in Wellington.
Monday next (Anniversary Day) will be observed as a public holiday in Pukekohe as well as in all of the adjacent townships.
The annual dinner of the Pakekohe Volunteer Fire Brigade is to be held in the Premier Hall on Tuesday evening of next week.
The merits of " Roulston's special blend of tea at Is 8d per lb " form the subject of Mr W. Roulston's replace advt. in this issue.
Tenders are invited for the erection of a bakehouse and oven in brick for Messrs Willis Bros at Papakura. Tenders close on Friday, 2nd February, at 3 p.m.
Miss Millicent Taylor, F.S.M., is to resume music teaching in Pukekohe on February sth and will be glad to interview pupils at her residence in West street on February Ist, 2nd and 3rd.

An imported case of diptheria was removed on Saturday from Puni to the Auckland Hospital. The patient, a young girl, had only arrived from Devonport on a visit to friends at Puni a day or two previously.
In a recent list of "reported wounded" appear the names of Private Thos. Earper, son of Mrs Harper, of Buckland ; Private Harold G-. Learning, son of Mr G. H. Learning, of Waiau Pa ; and Corporal David H. Palmer, of Maungatawhiri.
The thunderstorm experienced in the Pukekohe district on Sunday afternoon proved very discomforting for that section of the public who were out in the open air. The downpour of rain came so unexpectedly that a soiking of clothes and dresses was general.
In connection with the mosquito plague in evidence in Pukekohe the timely announcement is made in our advertising columns that mosquito oil as a preventative against the insects and mosquito lotion to heal stings are obtainable at Fear's Pharmacy.
Mr Ivan M otion, of Pukekohe, is a member of the " Winterless North Party " who are at present carrying out a tour of the districts north of Auckland. Mr Motion assisted the executive by being one of those to lend his motor-car for the conveyance of members of Parliament.
Whilst cycling down East street hill, Pukekohe, last Sunday morning, a boy named Hector Mclntyre, the eleven-year-old son of Mr M. Mclntyre, lost control of his machine and had the misfortune to be thrown violently to the ground. He was promptly attended to by Dr Wake and was found to have sustained a fracture of his collar-bjne.
A desirable dairy farm, situated at Buckland aud consisting of 123 acres, is to be submitted to public auction on Friday, February 9th, by Messrs Samuel Vailo and Sons. Ltd, at their sale rooms, 8 1 Queen street, Auckland. The land is of semivolcanic nature and the property includes a new 5-roomed house. For particulars see advt. in this issue.
Testimony was paid on Thursday last in the Pukekohe Court-house by a farmer residing in the back-blocks on the far eastern outskirts of Franklin County to the distant and extensive circulation of the Pukekohe "Time 3." Giving evidence in a rating objection appeal, the farmer in question mentioned that his only knowledge of certain work proposed to be carried out by the Franklin County Council was gained by reading the "Times," to which paper he was a subscriber.
The Pukekohe Magistrate Court returns for the year ended December 31st last show a marked decrease in offences and in civil actions as against the statistics for the previous year with an attendant reduction in tines and Court fees paid. Last year on the criminal side 80 persons were couvicted as compared with HO in 1915, the former total including i' 62 1 Is 9d imposed as tines as against lines totalling £llO in 11*15. Last year tJ9 civil actions wore heard involving judgmonts amounting to £866 Is <)d and Court fees totalling £B3 8s as against 178 civil actions, £1782 19s 6d judgment?, and £l-59 12s Court fees, for the previous year.
Mr and Mrs J. M Baxter of Pukekohe, proceeded south on Friday for the p-irpose of meeting their son, Lieutenant Baxter, who was among the invalided soldiers due to arrive by a steamer last Saturday at Port Chalmers.
A special sitting of the J.P's court is to take place at Pukekohe on Thursday next at 10 a.m. when the man charged with the burglary at Mrs Leech's residence will appear on remand. Being an indictable offence, lengthy evidenca will be taken prior to the accused being committed for trial to the Supreme Court. The construction of the new water reservoir at Pukekohe has advanced to the stage that probably by tomorrow the concreting of the sides will be completed. The next step will he to cover the concrete with plaster, and subsequent to that a roof over the reservoir will be erected. The laying of King street in tarred macadam is being delayed pending the removal of the watermains to the footpath, which work will be started this week.
A sample of Keith's Teat Cup is displayed for observation in a window at Mr W T. Jones' saddlery establishment in Pukekohe. This appliance, as previously mentioned, has been successfully experimented with by Mr J. Keith, a brother of Mr J. H. Keith, of Pukekohe, by whom it was designed, and it has only been placed on the market after reliable proof that it was in every way satisfactory. It is capable of attachment to any milking machine.
The " Wanganui Chronicle " says: It is understood that some prosecutions are to follow in the case of men v ho at the time of enlistment make a false declaration of age. It appears that in the Manawatu district a number of cases had come under the notice of the military authorities where men under and over age had volunteered for service with the Expeditionary Force, and had been accepted by making false declarations regarding their ages. As all recruits are attested when passing the doctor and are given a day's pay, the Department intends to stop the practice by instituting Police Cjurt proceedings against such offenders on a charge of making a false declaration and obtaining money under false pretences. Writing under date of November 26th, from London, Lance-Corporal A. F. Boadley, son of Mr Cecil Roadlev, of Pukekohe, who was wounded in the Somme advance, states that after being treated in hospital he had been granted three weeks' furlough, which he was spending in Edinburgh and London. lie adds that he had received an intimation from a Cable Company stating that a cable had been sent to him from Pukekohe, and on November 9th a copy of the same was forwarded to him at his request. He anticipated being sent back to France early in the New Tear—lt may be mentionee that the cable referred to by Lan.;o Corporal Roadley was the one sent to him early in October to the hospital in which he was a patient by his father asking for particulars of his injuries, to which no reply was received.
