STOCK SALE REPORT.

Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report:—

We held our monthly sales at Pokeno on Monday, and at Runcion Tuesday. At Pokeno there was an average yarding, and at Runci* man the yards were veil filled, the major poition being calve 9, and these realised record p ices. Dairy cows and heifers brought from £8 10s to £l4 10s (only a limited number penned); empty cowj £7 to £lO ss; fat cows £9 os to £l3 10s; forward three and a-half to four and a-half year old steers, £ls to £l6 9s (56 averaged £ls 17s 8d); two to three-year-old steers, £lO to £l3; 18-mon hs to two-year steers £8 10s to £10; heifers, same age, £6 15s to £8 7s; calves, best £5 10s to £6 6s, | good £4 10s to £5 ss, smaller £3 10s to £4 7s 6d, small and weedy £2 2s to £3 3s; bulls £7 to £l6, according to size; pigs, small, £1 3s ; sow, ia pig, £5. On Wednesday, at our weekly Westfield fat stock market, we penned fat cattle to the number of 365 head, comprising 177 steers, 179 cows and heifers, and 9 bulls. There was a steady demand throughout, ruling rates being easily sustained. Choice ox sold to £2 10s, prime £2 7s to £2 9s, plain £2 to £2 ss, cow and h ifer £1 18s to £2 7s. Steers ranged in price from £l4 to £22 12s Od, cows and heiferb £9 to £ls 12s 6d. The highest averages for steers included: 27 from Mr Farcjuhar Macdonald, Manurewa, £l6 19s 8d ;16 from Mr A. Muir, jun., Takaniai, £l6 6s 6d; 6 from Mr J. S. Fitch, Karaka, £lB 12s 6d ; 15 heifers from same vendor, £l3 Is 6d. Sheep came forward in large numbers, and the quality was superior to recent markets. Thero was a strong demand, although prime mutton was lotver by Is to Is 6d per head; unfinished sheep maintained late values. Extra heavy prime wethers, £1 19a 6d to £2 Is 6d; heavy prime, £1 16s 6d to £1 19s; light to heavy, £1 14s 6dto£l 16s; unfinished, £1 12s to £1 15s; extra heavy prime ewes, to £1 15s '6d to £1 18s; good ewes, £1 13s to £1 15s, other ewes £1 15s to £1 lis; prime hoggets, £1 12s to £1 14s 6d. 1947 sold. There was a full supply of lambs, a large number being unfinished; extra heavy prime, £1 8s to £1 13s ; good £1 4 tid to £l 7s 6d, lighter and unfinished £1 Is to £1 4s; fat shorn lambs £1 Is to £1 3s 3d. 717 sold. Fat and young calves were penned in large numbers, and maintained late prices, but competition was erratic. Runners made from £8 to £l3 2s 6d; heavy vealers, £6 to £7 7s 6d, medium £4 10s to £5 17s 6d, lighter £3 6s to £4 7 s 6d, light £2 2s 6d to £3 ss, small and fresh dropped 15s to £2; weak and inferg ior, 5s to 12s 6d. 102 sold. There was a full yarding of pigs, which were a shade easier in price. Choppers and heavy bacconers made from £3 3s to £3 10s, others £2 16s to £3 2s; large porkers £2 8s to £2 15s, small £1 14s to £2 ss; elips, £l 6s to £1 13s; weaners 15s to £1 ss. The advertised cows from the Costley Home sold from 6,gns. to BJgns, boar 6£gns. 274 pigs sold.
