WAIKATO RIVER SURVEY Discussion took place in regard to the proposal to promote a petition of the Aka Aka and Otaua ratepayers to ask the Government to instruct their engineer (Mr Thompson) to make another survey of the Waikato river so that his previous figures cf the levels could be checked. It was mentioned that the petition was to point out to the Government that the operations of the Waikato River Board were detrimental to the drainage outlets. On tbe rich Aka Aka Hats some of tbe best beefv cattle are to be seen, the Shorthorn cross type being most common. bere and there are one can discern a little of the tiolHtein iu their markings, though this„ is somewhat exceptional. Dairy cows are doing well, though, judging from reports, cows are on the turn and the best part of the season is over. Young stock are not too plentiful, many being scraggy and absence of good, plentiful milk to the calves in the early stage must account tor lack of vigour. Some good horses are to be seen, these are well ribbed, plenty of staying power and the colouring of the majority are invariably dark bavs, few weedy animals being seen. Colouring after all is not a hard and fast rule as tar as horses go. but the horse that gene ally fetches the best price is a good whole-coloured animal. Flax is looking well, the blades exhibiting strength of texture.
