TUHIMATA.
In the neighbourhood of theTuhimata district where the local creamery runs all the year round there are some first-class dairy fazms. Show me your well hung gates and your clearly kept back yard and I'll soon say what sort of farm you have said a faming expert. This may be a homely truhm indicate cleanliness, neatness, and method, in the small things which bolster up the good farmer. Surrounding one of the best farm 3 in the district is a good Hakea hedging. Although this variety needs a lot of careful trimming in its early stage it pays in the end and a good live hedge is the best farm advertisement. There are few farms selling in this dis'rict—rather few are being offered but one changed hands lately at £26 an acre. The popular cow is tho Shorthorn — its dual purpose being the great consideration. Rabbits—the curse in many a district are comparatively few —a farm well tilled means Bunny is killed. Success in the district lies in summer fallowing—this means feed is obtained before it is too wet to cut up and cattle or sheep can be fed on it as desired.
Many a housewife in charge of the poultry has bought a silk dress out of her poultry money For table and egg producers when they are wanted most the Plymouth Rock breed hold their own—some excellent specimens are to be teen in this district. For shelter the black wattle is coming into favour on account of its quick growth and it has much to commend itself.
Where the back garden is neatly fenced with corrugated iron, the paths concreted, and a rich supply of gorgeous flowers such as phlox drummondi, hollyhocks, carnations, and some unique varieties of Solpigloses these give character tone and artistic effect to a well arranged farm. The Rama Rama district boast of some excellent farms whose owners are also keen practical businessmen.
