Mr J. Jones, auctioneer, Victoria and Lome streets, Auckland, reports under date of January sth: The market this week show signs of an improvement, though in most lines the prices are much lower. Potatoes came forward iu heavy supply and prices fell considerably with a marked showing that values are still to go lower. Poultry is easier. Fruit and eggs are selling well, we quote: Poultry: Hens, prime choice, 2s 9d to 3s Bd, good 2s 6d to 2s 9d, poor 2s to 2s 4d. Ducks, old Is 9d to 2s 4d, young 2s to 3s Bd. Roosters, prime up to 6s, good 4s to 4s 9d small 2s to 2s lOd. Geese ss. Turkeys, gobbler 8s 6d to 15s. Farm produce: Potatoes 7s to 8s 6d, others £4. Onions, local, £7 10s to £9. Kumeras 8s 6d. Butter Is to Is Eggs Is sd. Cheese Bdto9d. Sides 9d to lid. Hams lOdtolUd. Fruit: Apples, local 5s (id to 9s 6d. Peaches 4s to 7s. Plums 3s 6d to 5s 9d Local lemons 8s 6d to lis 6d. Grain: Maize ss. Wheat 7s 3d. Oats 4s. Bran £5 10s. Sharps £7 15s.
