COMEDY OF A CAMERA. According to the Oeuvrc, much discussion has been created throughout the troops of the Fifth Legion of Home Defence by the misadventure of the commander of a German prisoners' camp. He was himself taking photographs of the camp and its inmates when a German lieutenant stepped forward and, saluting, shouted, "I decline to be photographed, and I forbid you to take me!" "And I refuse to be spoken to in that way by a lieutenant," said the commander—a veteran officer called back to service through the war, who ordered the German eight days' arrest for insolence. The lieutenant did his punishment, but complained to the district inspector, who held that the complaint was justified, ordered the commander under arrest in his turn, and to apologise to the German. "Never," retorted the commander, who waa accordingly placed on the retired list once more.
