Propositions in Paris for encouraging large families are as numerous as they are varied. The last strikes out ;. new line —at least, for France —and is pronounced well worthy of Parliamentary attention. French people, as ■i rule, s.iys the author of the proposal, do their best to confine their family to one son only. In future let us make the lot of the only son a difficult one For the purposes of military service, lit it be reckoned that each family owes six ycasr' service. Daughters, says the "Pal! Mall" correspondent, would count towards a reduction, provided there weiv sev- (; a 1 girls and only one boy. It is not, s.'id what would happen to families consisting entirely of daughters.
