Papakura Town Board.
[TO THE EDITOR.]
Sir, Kiodly alios me, as a member of the Papakura Town Board, to correct an error that was made in y«r report of the monthly meeting of thu ; buvc-namcd B iard. The report of the said meeting in your issue of the "Times" of the 6th in>t. statfs that "the flerk was paid by the previous Board £6O a year for an eight hour week, and the present Board wes cnly paying £125 for a twenty-eight hour week." This is fn incorrect sta'ement, as the previous Board paid Ihe clerk £6O to* a four hour we;k, not eight hours as stateJ in your report.
On reading your report the inference is that the ire in the clerk's salary was ? unanimous decision ot the Board, which was rot the case. A proposal against a rise to such an extent being granted waa defeated only bv the chairman's casting vote, Messrs Campbell, Holt and Linatrom voting for the proposal, and Messrs Lloyd, Markwick and Gillespie voting against. As Mr Kichardson was absent and the voting was equal, the chairman txeicieed the power given him tor such occasions to use his casting vote, with the result as stattd above.
As this explanation might all iy a deal of misapprehension in this district, I wmld thank you for publication ot same.—l am, etc., W. B. LINSTROM. Papakura.
