Local Prize Winners

At the Auckland Show, held last Friday and Saturday, the following were among the prize-winners, viz. : Mr W. K. Lawton (Pukeoware) was first and champion for Pedigree Ayrshire bull, 3 years and over (Jumbo); second ditto cow, over 3 years (Duchess); first ditto heifer, 2 years, reserve female champion (Barbara I.); second ditto heifer, 2 years (Rosella); third ditto yearling heifer (Desert Gold); and first for ditto bull and three of his progney (Jumbo with Desert Gold, Eileen and Nancy). Mr Lawton was also first for Grade Ayrshire cow in milk (Tui Brown).

Second priz> for Pedigree Ayrshire bull, 3 years and over, was secured by Messrs Hyland and Johnsto 's (Waiuku) Prince Ruby, and tbe same owners' yearling heifer Woolly Grev took first prize in the yearling class. Mr Alfred J. Kidd (Aka Aka) secured Ist and championship awards in the pedigree Holstein - Friesian section for his cow Jewell IL of Brundee, who was also placed as the reserve champion dairy ccw of the show. In the same section Mr C. A. Fawcett's (Clevedon) bull Star of Canada was awarded second prize in the class for bulls, three years and over, and the same owner secured a v.h.c. in the 2 year-old heifer class.

Mr R. F. Wilkinson (Pukekohe) was second and reserve champion for Pedigree Jersey bull, over 3 years (Majestic). In the sheep section, Mr J. £. Wilson (Clevedon) for English Leicesters was lirst and second for ram under 18 months; first for pen of three rams, and third for pen of two ewes. Mr A L. Collie (Manurewa) was first for Romney Marsh ram, over 18 months, and first and second for ditto pen of three rams, under 18 months. Mr A. D. Bell (Clevedon) was third for Romney Marsh ram, ander 18 months; third for ditto pen of three rams ; second, for ditto ewe, over 30 months; and second for ditto ewe, under 30 months. In Shropshires, Mr W. C. Knight (Brookby) was first and champion for ram 18 months and over, and first and second for ram under 18 months. For fat sheep, Mr A. D. Bell (Clevedon) won first for pen of five ewes. In the produce section, Mrs John Blake (Pukekohe) was first and second for butter, with salt. Mr J. J. McKinney (Pukekohe) was second • both for hen and duck eggs. Messrs S. Carter and Sons (Mercer) won first prize for best four loaves of bread made from Northern Roller Milling Co.'s "Champion" Flour, Mr W. J, Crichton (Papakura) being second. Mrs H. Newman (Pukekohe) was first for home-made scones made from "Champion" flour. Mrs D. Hill (Pukekohe) was first both for shortbread and sultana cake. Mrs Henry West (Pukekohe) was first for three kinds of jellies and second for lemon marmalade.

In cut flowers, Miss Ruth Allan (Buckland) was first for 6 varieties and throe varieties of Rhododendrons. The Rama Rama School secured third prize in the schools' section for best collection of the most harmful weeds.
