A 9 the result of the series o£ meetings held this week in the Lower Waikato in support of the newlyformel N.Z. Farmers' Co op. Bacon and Meat Packing Co., Ltd., some 800 shares have been taken up by local farmers. Cordial support was everywhere promised to the Company's operations. Paiticularlv of interest to the little ones is the window display at Mr C. Eoadley's establishment in Pukekohe, known as "The Bookery," of a large range of dolls. The collection is one that in these days of shortage of such types of toys is hardly likely to be excelled in any city business house. Mr Eoadley has also an exceedingly large stock of other toys suitable for the Christmas trade. With a return of fine weather potato digging is proceeding apace in the Pukekohe district and as a result the supply for the time being is in excess of the demand, the wholesale rates to-day being £l2 per ton - a drop of £ 1 since yesterday. This figure, however, compares very favourably with the price current on December Ist of last year, viz , XB. The crops are averaging about seven tons to the acre, and generally are of good quality, whilst the merchants report that the grading in most cases is being carried out on more satisfactory lines than in previous years.
A reminder is given to intending exhibitors that entries for the Flower Show and exhibition of home products to be held in the Premier Hall on Thursday and Friday of next week under the auspices of the Pukekohe Anglican Church close on Mondny evening next. Entries should be forwarded to either of the Hon. Secretaries (Messrs A. F. Brown and F. E. Simpson) or may be left at the office of this paper. Every endeavour is being made to render the show a success and it is hoped that residents of the district will freely forward exhibits, A produce stall will be under the* control of the Ladies' Guild and donations for the same will be gratefully accepted by Mrs Dell prior to the day or at the Hall on Thursday morning. A Christmas Tree will appeal to the younger generation, whilst " Strawberries and Cream " will be served in the building. The entertainment por-t-on of the proceedings promises to be exceedingly interesting, A series of tableaux illustrative of popular nursery rhymes will be submitted by children each evening, together with action songs, and on Thursday evening a Canadian boat song and a Gipsy Cantata will be rendered by the senior girls. In addition to the tableaux on Friday evening there will bo an exhibition of Maypole Dancing and the concluding itpm on the programme will bo " The Story of the War " told in tableau form by a party of Buckland ladies, the same beiog a repitition of a recent successful performance at Buckland.
