POOR DOCTOR!
A physician was culled out of a sound slumber the other night to answer the telephone. "Hello, what is it?" lie asked, little pleased at the idea of leaving his comfortable bed. "Baby is crying, doctor, what shall I do?" came across the wire. "Oh, perhaps it's a pin," suggested the doctor, recognising the voice of a young motherj one of his patients. "No," was the reply, "I'm sure it can't be that." " Perhaps he has the colic," returned the doctor, with well simulated solicitude. "No, I don't think so," replied the mother, "he doesn't act that way. "Then, perhaps he's hungry," as a last resort. "Oh, I'll see," came across the wire, and then all was still. The doctor went back to bed and was soon asleep again. About half an hour afterwards he was awakened by the violent ringing of the telephone Ik>ll. Jumping out of bed and placing the receiver to his ear ho was cheered by the following message: "You were right, doctor, baby was hungry." EMBLEMS FOR V.C.s. MINIATURE REPLICAS OF THE" CROSS IN BRONZE TO BE ISSUED. The King has been pleased to approve of the following emblems being worn on the ribands of certain decorations and medals to denote tliat the wearer has been awarded a bar or bars to the original decoration or medal for subsequent acts of bravery or for iurthcr distinguished conduct in the field : Victoria Cross—A miniature replica of the cross in bronze; one or more according to the number of bars awarded. Distinguished Service Order. Military Cross, Distinguished Conduct .Medal, Military Medal A small silver ros. 1 ; one or more according to the number of bars awarded. These emblems do not form part oi the decoration or medal, and are not to be worn on the riband when the decoration or medal is worn in original on the full dress, tunic, or jacket.
