FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.

(Continued from Page 1.) OLD CLVIir REVISED. As owner of a property brought into the county at the recent alteration of the borough boundaries Miss 8. J. Pepler forwarded a claim, similar to one she has frequently put before the Pukekohe Borough Council, to the effect that a portion of her land was being illegally used as a road. She added : " You cm either remove the road to its proper . place and pay me compensation or you can buy the road at £SO per acre for the three acres now used as a road and pay me compensate n for L the use of it." The County Clerk reported that he had been informed by the Town Clerk that the Borough Council did not recognise Miss Pepler's claim of | ownership, the road having been in L use for many years. It was decided to call on Miss Pepler to produce documentary evidence that the road had not beeu . legalised. AN OUTSrOKEX CRITIC. "That the dreadful state of the Whangarata road, opposite Mr J. C. Lang's property, is really a disgrace to the Council," was the indictment contained in a letter ft ritten by Mr C. Brewster of Whangarata He also stated that he was under the impression that under the Council settlers wjuld, secure a better road than under the Road Board, but the road he allu led to was, no inducement for the remaining Road Boaris to merge ) in the Council. He also suggested that a sign post should be erected at the junction of the Pokeno, Whangarata and Maungatawhiri roads. It was decided to reply that it was the Council's intention to repair the road at an early date, and the matter of the sign post was referred to the engineer for action. KARAKA ROADS. . An application for the new road ' leading from the Drury-Waiuku road, near Mr Halliday's property, to Paerata station, and from that i point to the boundary of Pukekohe borough to be declared a county road was received from the Karaka , Road Board It was also reported that a deputation of two ratepayers of the Karaka Road District waited on the Finance Committee at their last meeting and asked that the main road from the Hingaia bridge to the Karaka-Waiau road should be declared a County road. Cr Henry proposed that both requests should be acceded to. He added that he believed the Karaka ratepayers were tired of the dual control and favoured merging in the county. The Chairman reported that a j deputation from the Karaka Roai 9 Board was to have been present that day to have interviewed the Council on the merging question but as the day was found inconvenient for some of them he had arranged for the deputation to be heard at the next meeting. # It was pointed out that if the I roads were declared County roads expenses attendant to Special Orders would be entailed and the matter was accordingly adjourned until the . question of merging had been furthr considered. On the motion of Cr Henry, the clerk was deputed to prepare a re--1 turn of lates collected in the Karaka area and of expenditure on roads, &c., in that area. MISCELLANEOUS. The Council's decision to open up a portion of an existing unused road running through his property, off the Pukekohe-Waiuku road, was dealt with by Mr W.
