TUAKAU.

FARMERS' UNION MEEfING

BUTTER PROBLEM DISCUSSED

At a meeting of the Tuakau branch of the Farmers' Union, held on Saturday, the llth inst., Messrs Cruickshank (chairman), Clatidge, Smith, Logan, Wright, Revell ami Lewis being present, the Gjvernment's action in regard to the selling price of butter formed the subject of consideration,, as the result of correspondence on the subject being submitted to the meeting. A unanimous decision was arrived at to forward the following resolution to the Auckland Executive of the Farmers Union, viz :—•" That this meeting of members of the Tuakau branch of the Farmers' Union protests against the action of the Government in limiting the selling price of butter on the local market, an I against the principle of taxing the whole of the dairy farmers in order to make up the difference between the limit fixed and the current price on the Home market, which is opposed to the interests of the whole daTry industry." Another matter, viz, correspondence classes in agriculture and daiiy science, came before the meeting, an invitation, by letter, having been extended to members to join the classes. The scheme was favourably commented on, but- only one member availed himself of the opportunity offering.

After the evening service at the Anglican Church on Sunday last had concluded, the congregation re mained on to make arrangements for a farewell to be extended to the choirmaster and organist, Mr L. Stevenson, who goes into camp with the Auckland Infantry Section of the 24th Reinforcements on the 12th December. It was decided to make Mr Stevenson a presentation at a farewell to be held in the Public Hall on Wednesday of next week. As a result of the vigorous policy determined on by the Town Board to stop the cattle and stock straying nuisance in the district, four prosecutions of owners of horses and cows found straying will be heard at the next sitting of the Pukekohe Magistrate's Court. One of the " quartette " is a member of the Town Board.

An important sale of George Street property has been affected. The area comprises some four acres and is situated at the extreme river end of the road. It brought a high figure. It is a portion of Mr Joe Glasgow's estate and has beon purchased by Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., for the purposes of a' eale yard. It is probable that large store buildings for the Company's use will be erected on the site. The innovation of Messrs Dalgety aud Co., operating in the district is being looked forward to by the farmers. On Saturday next during the holding of the Children's Patriotic sports the business premises will close for several hours.
