NEW AERIAL TORPEDO.
SECRET TESTS IN AMERICA. A series of secret experiments has been conducted on the Hempstead Plains aviation field. Long Island, U.S. A., quite recently with a new ammunition aerial torpedo invented by F. Barlow, who i> associated with the I'Yankford Arsenal et Philadelphia. It is said it will become as important to warfare as the wireless one recently purchased bv the United States Government.
The torpedo may lie- dropped from an aeroplane and timed to explode just before it reaches th. 1 ground, or sent flying under it- own power and win'is to a point two miL-s distant. On exploding it has force enough to kill every man within a radius of 100 yards. It also contains a compaitmcnt for the discharge of poisonous gases. The inventor claims its greatest efficiency lies in the fact that it explodes before it touches the ground and th.> greater portion of its power is not tau<n up liy the earth. The officers of the Ist Aerial Company refuse to discuss it in detail, hut admit thoy are hghlv pleased wth the success of the experiments find thta it undoubtedly will i. l purchased by the Government.
