Mrs McQovern's many friends in Pukekohe will bo ploasod to learn that she returned home last evening on recovery from the recent illness as the rosult of which an operation was performed on her in the Auckland Hospital. A letter received by Mr C. Roadley, of Pukekohe, yesterday, from his son, Lance-Corporal A. F. Roadley, who w&b wounded in the advance in France early in September, indicated that a bullet had passed through his left arm and lung, but had been extricated from under his right shoulder blade At the time of writing, viz., on Sept. 27th, Lance-Corporal Roadley was an inmate, of the military hospital at Brockenhurst, Hampshire, England, and was making good progress towards > recovery. It is a curious coincidence that a photograph of a ward in the Brockenhurst Hospital, containing four beds, was yesterday received from Mrs McGovern from her son, Corp. J. McGovern, who had also been under treatment in the hospital, and on the photo being shown last eight to Mr Roadley the latter at once saw that his son was the occupant of one of the cots depicted in the illustration. LanceCorpl. Roadley and Corp. McGovern were not acquainted with one another so it is probable that neither'knew that the other was in the institution since the building is of very extensive proportions. Poor Solomon Stead lay sick in his bed' Was a cold that he'd contracted, With lungs like lead, he was all but dead, And his wife was nigh distracted. Overcome with grief she shook like a leaf, But such anguish was premature. Her motherjushed in, replacing hot gin With Woods' Great Peppermint Cure
