Tiie couple were about to leave tor the vestry to sign the register when the incident occurred. There was great excitement among the congregation, t large proportion of whom had (villained alter the conclusion of the ordinary service. An order was at once given to lock the doors, and no one was permitted tn leave the building. .Meanwhile the curate held a conference in tin- vestry, interrogating th ' woman who claimed to lie the true wife ami the bridegroom.
