Bacon and Meat Packing Co. advertise in this issue the dates and places for their receipt of pigs next month (November). Messrs A. P. Home and Son advertise that they will be receiving pigs at Buckland on Monday next on behalf of the Te Aroha Bacon Co. Intending exhibitors at the Clevedon A. and P. Association's Spring Show, to be held on November 18th, are reminded that entries close on Saturday next with the secretary, Mr J. A. Gandy. The Railway Department announce the issue of holiday excursion tickets to Palmerston North for the A. and P. Show to be held in that town on November Ist, 2nd and 3rd, For particulars see advt. The gift of 60 dozen of eggs collected by the scholars of the Pukekohe Public School was to-day despatched to Auckland as a contribution to the Belgian Egg Week Scheme, together with a further instalment of 30 dozen eggs from the Pukekohe Patriotic Committee.
The ceremony of formally opening the bazaar to be held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week under the auspices of the Pukekohe branch of the Women's Patriotic League is to be performed at 2.30 pm. on the Thursday by Mrs J. H. Gunson, Mayoress of Auckland, who will be accompanied by Miss Spedding, secretary of the Auckland League. " For some 300 years or more we have been praying for Parliament to be improved, and I don't know there has been any results," jocularly remarked Mr H. E. R. L. Wily in proposing the toast of the Parliament of New Zealand at the dinner of the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce last Thursday, whereupon the Hon. G. W. Russell wittily interjected by saying " You are told to pray without ceasing, so you never know when your desires will be gratified." The Rt. Rev. Dr Averill, Bishop of Auckland, will visit this district at the end of this week. On Saturday, at 3 p.m., there will be an " at Home " in the Oddfellows' Hall, to which all parishioners and their friends are cordially invited to meet the Bishop. On Sunday next His Lordship will celebrate Holy Communion at St. Andrew's Church, Pukekohe, at 8 o'clock At 11 o'clock he will preach at St. Paul's, Buckland. At 3 p.m. the Bishop will minister Confirmation at St. Andrew's, Pukekohe, and he will also preach in the same church again at Evensong. In visiting Pukekohe on Thursday last to attend the Chamber of Commerce dinner, Mr J. A. Young, M.P. for the Waikato made his first acquaintance with the borough. On being motored in the afternoon over and around the slopes of Pukekohe Hill, Mr Young expressed great admiration of the qualities of the lands that came under his view, as instanced more particularly by the numerous promising crops of potatoes and onions on which he gazed. In no instance was a " blighty " patch of tubers observable, but as a precaution against the disease vigorous spraying was seen as being resorted to on several of the crops that were inspected.
