KARAKA ROAD BOARD.
Monthly Meeting. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Karaka Road Board, held on Saturday last, was attended by Messrs J. Batty, Schlaepfer, Jamieson and Kidd, with the clerk, Mr H. E. Glasson. Before proceeding with the ordinary business a vote of condolence with the parents of Second-Lieut. Bremner, who was killed in action, was passed. On the chairman reporting that he had secured estimates from Mr Lockie Gannon for the erection of a bridge, 12ft by 12ft, either in conwood, on Herd's road, £l5O and £75 respectively, Mr Jamieson suggested, and it was resolved, that the chairman should endeavour to secure further estimates and to have the bridge erected in concrete conditionally on the price not exceeding £9O, failing which that it be erected in wood. Mr Kidd was empowered to arrange for the employment of a team of two horses, with man in charge, for the whole of the summer during the expenditure of loan money. The matter of ordering scoria for Sutton's road was considered, and Messrs Jamieson and fc'chlaepfer were deputed to inspect the road with a view of ascertaining whether it would be advisable to order the same and to engage a man to spread the metal. They were also further deputed to inspect a culvert on Appleby's road with a view of deciding as to whether it would be advisable to replace same with larger pipes.
Mr Jamieson reported that there was a bad piece of road opposite Mr Murray's house, near the Faerata railway station, that required metalling for a distance of about three chains, and the clerk was instructed to order four trucks of metal so that the work could be put in hand. At Mr Jamieson's request it was decided to make application to the Franklin County Council to have the road leading from the Pukekohe .West boundary, through section 60 and then past the Paerata railway station to the Waiuku road, made a county road.
