The Price of Butter.
' [TO THE EDITOR] Sir, —I hope the people of your district will resist the unfair recommendations of the Board of Trade, which in effect means the butter- ; producers are to provide merchants, doctors, lawyers, highly-paid commercial men, civil servants and , retired people with butter below its market value. It is not sufficient that the producers have had to pay all increased charges on merchandise and Government increased taxes towards war bonuses, and liberal voluntary contributions to all war funds and the up-keep of the country generally (in addition, they freely offered their sons to fight the country's enemies), but they must be singled out from all other industries for this special imposition. What would the workers of any other industry, not forgetting the above-mentioned gentlemen, have to say if the farming community were to ask for such a concession from them r—l am, etc , THOS. CLEMENTS. Papakura, October 13th, 1916. ♦
