WAR CASUALTIES.
The already long roll of local "boys" who have fallen in acticn or have been wounded has been largely added to by the recent lists of casualties issued by the Defence Department. Sergeant John Lowe Rawlings, of the Auckland Battalion, brother of Mr W. T. Rawlings. of Mauku, was killed in action in France on October Ist. He was 19 years and 10 months old.
Rifleman Oliver John Curry, of the N.Z. Rifle Brigade, killed iu action on Sept. 29th, was the son of Mr E. Curry, formerly of the Pukekone staff of the N.Z. Dairy Association. Rifleman Curry was educated at the Pukekohe public school. Rifleman Jocelyn Clark, killed in action on September 14th, was the son of Mr C Clark, of Maramarua. He was born at Ashhurst, Palmerston North, in 1890. Gunner Henry George Talbot, of the Field Artillery, who is amongst the " killed in action," was a building contractor in Pukekohe when he enlisted. Seaond-Lieut. A. D. Bremner (Auckland Battalion), of Drury, previously reported " missing, believed to be killed" is now reported "killed in action" on September 15th.
Kifleman G. F. Kiniber, who lias been wounded, loft with the 10th Reinforcements. At the time he enlisted he was a builder in Pukekohe.
Private William Henry Woods, eldest son of Mr T. W. Woods, one of the members of the Pukekohe riding of the Franklin County Council, was wounded on September 25th. His brother, Rifleman T. G. Woods, was killed in France on loth Sept. In the list of " reported wounded" appears the name of Private Victor W. Cunningham, of the Auckland Battalion, who was engaged on the clerical staff of Mr Win Roulston's store when he enlisted. Lists of " wounded, admitted to Hospital" contain the names of Private P. C. Balme, son of Mr ft. A. Balme, of Bombay; Privat9 K. McLean, brother of Mr Owen McLean, of Pukekohe; Private T. H. Loftus, of Waeienga; Private R. H. Hayward, of Whangarata ; Private W. P. Martin, son of Mr P. Martin, of Hunua; Trooper Percy Ralph Smith, of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, son of Mr L. Smith, of Clevedon. Private Arnold Taylor, son of Mrs J. Taylor, of Glenroy, Pukekohe, is included among the ,; wounded, embarked for England." Lance-Corporal Roadley, son of Mr Cecil Roadley, of Pukekohe, who earlier in the week was reported seriously ill from gunshot wounds is now reported as "removed from seriously ill list." Among the " Reported wounded" are Private James George Sim, of the Auckland Battalion, son of Mr J. Sim, Ararimu; Corporal M. L. Claridge, Auckland Battalion, son of Mr J. H. Claridge, Tuakau; Driver Wm. Batty, of the Field Artillery, son of Mr J. Batty, of Runciman; Private W. Cain, late of Patumahoe.
