LEAKAGE OF ARMY SECRETS.
An Army Order .issued recently states that officers and men who act indiscreetly by giving information to relatives and friends concerning military operations will be severely dealt with. The worcVng of the Order is as follows : There is reason to believe that information concerning operations is being conveyed by officers and men of thh British Army in the field to their relative at home, either personally, by letter, or by telegram, and that, in some rases, a code has been elaborated to facilitate the communication of information which would otherwise be stopped by the Censors. It is to be regretted that at this stage of the war it is necessary to explain to all ranks that the sole object oi the field eemorsh:p and of all other steps taken to prevent the leakage of military information is to secure substantial gains with the bast possible loss. Each officii- or man who privately transmits information (even to those on whose discretion he may have the most complete reliance) inevitably facilitate tli.' tusk of the enemy's agents and indirectly sacrifices the lives of his comradics. This fact should be ; mpressed on all officers and men. so that all ranks may eo-operato to .ensure that th > progress o l ' the Army k not imperilled or rendered more coolly l>y the criminal folly ol a few individuals, who. if discovered, will be severely dealt-.with. A note states that a copy of this Army Order will be issued to every officer serving in the Army, who will lir.-ns: it continually to the notice of tlios» serving nnder him.
