Firm jellies are summer favourites that often fail to set to perfection. Stand the mould in a basin of water containing a good handful of salt and soda. A mild freezing mixture is the result, and on the hottest day a firm, cool icllv will be the reward. * * * To clean and polish varnished wallpaper, add two of ammonia to half a bucketful of water, and wash the walls down with a flannel clipped in this. Take half a bucketful of water, and wash the .walls down with a flannel dipped in tins. Take half a bucketful of clean water and add two tablespoonfuls of turpentine. Wash the walls a second time with this, and wipe as dry ns possible. * * * One of the most effective ways of cleaning bamboo furniture is with a stiff nail-bru'di, such as can be purchased at most bazaars and stores for a penny each, and common salt and water. Use .warm water, and put into a good quantity of salt, as th:s will prevent tho bamiioo from turning yellow when it dries, as it is apt to do if plain water is used. After washin ', rub drv with clean cloth'. * * * .Mix together in a bottle equal parts i<\ \vnogar and paraffin, cork and keep for ue. It is splendid for pictures mirrors, pianos, floors, etc. If used regularly on a soft duster Tor gilt picture-frames, silver photo-frames, and tho like, they will never tarnish A drop or two of oil of lavender will give the polish a nkasant smell, and make it doubly effective in keeping away Hies. It is-cheap and effective
