BARTON'S CIRCUS.
Tonight's Challenge Contest. Barton Bros', circus opened tn Pukekohe last night, and tha final performance will be given this (Friday) evening, when to suit tbe convenience ut basinets people the entertainment will commence at 8.30. Tbe circus is located in Koulstob's paddock, entrance to which is obtained from King street) adjacent to the shooting gallery. Last night a fairly large audience issembied and satisfaction was id general with tbe "billot tare" provided that a crowded houss should be secured tbis evening. "Tornado," claimed to be the King of buckjumpers, is to make bis appearance to-nigbt and should prove a grea attraction, two well known local residents having accepted tbe cballengj to ride the outlaw. For the younger generation a bucking donkey o!Ters scope tor horsemanship.
The sho.v is bright and attractive, being tree from the (lightest trace of vulgarity, 'led McLoud performs some smart cowboy feats. Besides demonstrating his dexterity with the rifle and revolver he 'ring-fences" a lad? companion with steel ki.ivep, which he throws ail round her with great precision. He winds up his turn wth a very clever exhioition of lassoing and rope spinning. Miss Ethel Asbton is responsible for some thrilling aerial acts, Mr Ernest Shand indulges in some dariog gymnastic feats un horseback, Mus Kata Montgomery is a dainty equestrian, and Ernesto, "the india-rubber man," turns some novel somerssuits. Other members of the company are all eminently skilful, and clowns as usjal furnmn plenty of tun.
The circus is to visit Waiuku ten, fr. morrow. Tuskau on Tuesday and ♦ Merc=r on Wed.ies^ay,
