In view of the advent of Roumania into the world war, the following table of the various European nations directly involved and their populations, will be read witii interest: — Europe-in Allies. Central Powers. Britain. Germany. Russia. Austria-Hungary France. Bulgaria. Italy. Turkey. Belgium. Servia. Montenegro. Roumania.
A state of war exists between the above parties of belligerents, while Japan—whose naval and industrial assistance has been invaluable —is ako formally at war with each and all of the Central Powers. Portugal is at war with Gorman}'. The populations available for military service at the outbreak of war were: — ALLIES. British (Home and Overseas) 63,000,000 Russia i 73,500,000 France 40,000,000 Italy 30.000.000 Be'gium 7,500,000 Servia -1,500,000 Montenegro 500,000 Roumania 8,000,000 332,000,000 CENTRAL POWERS. Germanv 68,000,000 Austria-Hungarv 50.000,000 Turkev ' 20,000.000 Bulgaria :. 5,000,f;00 143,000,000 Portugal has a population of 6,000,000, and Japan, with Korea. 00,000,000. Including India, the total population of the British Empire is 440,000,000.
