ANOTHER WAR PROPHECY.

A remarkable war prophecy which seems to have been overlooked occur* in the Apocrypha, in the second book of Esdras: — "Then saw I a dream, and, behoh!. there came up from the sea an eagle which had twelve feathered wings, anl three heads . . .the head in m : dst was greater than the other .. . and I saw that all things under heaven were subject to her. . . . •Th;s head put tlfe whole earth 'n fear, and bare rule in it over all those that dwelt upon the earth with much oppression. . . . "And I beheld, and lo as it were .1 roaring lion chased out of the wood; and I saw that he sent ou't a man's voce unto th? .eagle, and said, Thou hast afflicted the meek, thou hast hurt the peaceable, thou lias loved liars, and destrcved the dwellings of them that 'Drought forth fruit, and has cast dowa the walls of. such as dd thee no harm. * 'Therefore appear no more; thou cade, nor thy horrible wings, nor thy wicked feathers, nor thy malicious heads, nor thy hurtful nor all thv vain body: • "'•laif.t all the oufVth. may l\ refreshed, and may return, being delivered from thv violence. . . . "And the whole body of the eagle was burnt." • The interpretation of this dream of Edras is given as follows: Of the three heads of the eagle—"one of them sha': do upon lus bed, and ?»t with pain. The two that remain shall be slan with the sword. For the sword of on 3 shall devour the other;' but at last shall he fall through the sword himself.

"And tlic lion whom thou sawest ris.. ing ii pout of the wood, roaring, and speaking to the eagle, and rebukin? her for her unrighteousness. . . .shall reprove them and shall upbraid them with their cruelty." Prophets have seldom got as near to the actual facts as this.
