At Hamilton they were the guests of the Soldiers' Club and were right royally entertained, whilst the ladies of the Club before their departure presented them with boxes of cakes in plenty. On the journey through to Featherston they were also liberally supplied with refreshments at various stations. Private Hutchings adds that the Pukekohe boys are quartered together in the camp. Among those reported wounded a few days ago was Captain Maxwell Aldred, a well-known ex-resident of the Waiuku district. Captain Aldred was born at Blackpool, Lancashire, 35 years ago, and he received his education at Oakham, in Northamptonshire. He came to Auckland in 1901, and was engaged for some years in farming at Waiuku, where he took an active part in lccil affairs. He joined the mounted rifles as a trooper and lose to the rank of major, being appointed adjutant of the 3rJ, Auckland Mounted Rifles about two vears ago. He thereupon moved to Auckland and left with the reinforcements some 12 months ago. As regards athletics, he was a representative footballer in the Midland Counties and was captain of the Waiuku Cricket Club. He also took an interest in National Reserve work. Dr Aldred, of Waiuku, is his father and his wife and children reside in Auckland. A cablegram was received yesterday -fifing that ho had boon wnundod in tiio log, but was now nearly well again.

Lack of a quorum of members was responsible for the usual monthly meeting of tbe Waikato River Board failing to eventuate at Mercer last Saturday. Mr A. G. C. Glass, the energetic chairman of the Board, is suffering from an attack of influenza and he was accordingly unable to attend on Saturday.

The Lyceum management announce that owing to the unpopularity of the serial "The Million Dollar Mystery," they will not show it any farther. On Saturday next they will start on a new service, the star film being " The Lion's Cubs," a picture of great patriotism in which Britian's Boy Scouts are introduced. Particulars of the sale of the sections on the old Showgrounds at Fukekohe to be held on the property by Messrs J. T. Stembndge and Co., on behalf of the Franklin A. and P. Copies of a petition requesting the Pukekohe Borough Council to obtain fuither expert advice in connection with the water-loan scheme are open for signature at the business establishments of Messrs W. The public are reminded that War Loan Certificates will be on sale for some time at all Honey Order Offices throughout the Dominion. ' The fact that the Dominion Loan was so successfully floated should not influence those who are able to' assist by purchasing these certificates. In all £16,000,000 sterling is required for the purposes ot the war, and air though it was only proposed to raiss halt the sum in New Zealand every £1 additional that is raised in War Certificates will be £1 less to be raised abroad, and will so help the Dominion in its Belt-relief policv. It is hoped that all those who have not yet taken up one or more certificates will speedily do so. The great strength of the French finance lies in the fact that the people generally have a share in the State Bonds, which are held in small quantities by all sorts and conditions ot men. AH those who cannot help in the war by going personally into the battlefield can at least do something in the matter of finding the money required to bring it to a "uccesstul issue.
