KARAKA.
KARAKA ROAD BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Karaka Road Board was held on August 12th. Present : Messrs Batty (chairman), Jamieson, Kidd and Schlaepfer, with the clerk (Mr H. E. Glasson). A letter was received from the Public Works Department to the effect that it was necessary for the Board to accept all responsibility for ihe building, maintenance and reconstruction if necessary of the new bridges and the Board resolved to arrange for the same.
ROAD DIVERSION. In regard to the proposed diversion of a road at Crawford's crossing, south of Paerata, it was agreed, on the motion of the Chairman, that the Board should offer to provide the land for the diversion and to pay all survey charges, on condition that the Railway Department made the cutting free of cost to the Board and contributed £oo towards the cost of making the road on the Western side of the railway, from the old crossing to the proposed new crossing. TREES OX ROADS. In reply to an enquiry the Board's solicitors wrote stating that in their opinion the owner of land fronting a road was not liable to be called on to nmove pine or gum trees growing on the road, no matter whether they had spread by seed from his land or not. ,
A CLAIM SETTLED. A letter from Mr Wm. Bremner was read suggesting that the Board should credit him with the amount of his rates for last year in settlement of his claim against the Board for balance of metal supplied, there being a dispute regarding the measurements.—lt was agreed to accept Mr Bremner's suggestion. FINANCE. It was resolved to apply to the Bank for an overdraft of £O6B for the current yew. WARBY AT I'AEHATA. The Board's solicitors wrote stating that arrangements for vesting this property in the Board were' practically completed. XEW 110 AD TUROUiiH OSTKICH I'AJtM. It was resolved to inform the Engineer in charge of the Waiuku Kailway at Paerata that the Board would accept the new road through section 60 in lieu of the old road if the Department would guarantee tho expenditure of £3O the Board offering to supply the contractor with scoops, grader and plough free of cost. SPIERS V. THE HOARD. It was decided subject to the approval of the Board's solicitor's, to have the claim in connection with land taken under the Public Works Act for a road to the Hingaia Bridge, heard by Mr Frazer S.M., without assessors.
