WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE.
Pukekohe Branch. A meeting of the Pukekohe branch of the Women's Patriotic League was held in the Borough Council Chambers on August 9th. Present: Miss Webster (in the chair), Mesdames Mcßae, O'Connor, Hogan, Webb, Baxter, Misses Graham, Usher and Towason. Letters of acknowledgment and thanks were read from the Mayoress of Auckland for July Dominion Gifts (298), ten suits pyjamas, hussifs (50), and a parcel of knitted comforts. Accounts to the amount of £l3 os were passed for payment. A letter was read from Mrs Ivan Motion tendering her resignation i from the Executive Committee. The members present expressed regret and decided to relieve Mrs Motion from active duty for the time being, but should she find she can give the time required to sgain act at any future date, her services will be gladly welcomed. Miss Webster reported that the Dominion Gifts for August totalled 282, a slight falling off from the previous month. She also reported a donation from Mrs W. Moore of £l. Miss Usher reported that the Sewing Committee had met and a monthly batch of hussifs (50) had been made, filled and despatched along with 10 pair pyjamas to the Mayoress of Auckland, the workers being Mrs R. W. S. Moore, Mrs Mee, Miss Fawcett, Miss Brown, Miss Usher, 2 suits each, and Mrs W. Jones 1 suit. Miss Usher also stated that the committee had cut out 14 white shirts, suitable for hospital U9e, and had distributed the same to be made.
Mrs Webb reported that the Entertainment Committee had met three times. The balance sheet for picture night was read as follows : Tickets sold £2l '2s, money taken at door £7 6d, sweets sold £2 15s, total £3l 3s On. Expenses, hire of hall £5, printing and advertising £1 ss, total £6 ss, leaving a balance of £24 18s 6d, which was handed to Miss Webster to add to the General Fund. Mrs Webb, as convenor of the Entertainment Committee, stated it was the intention of the members to hold a bazaar later on, provided the Executive were willing to help in the movement. —Those present expressed their willingness to do all in their power to aid the working of the bazaar. It was decided that £2 should be allotted for. the buying of material for sewing, and Miss Webster and Miss Usher were appointed to do the purchasing. Mrs Baxter, convenor of the Knitting Committee, reported the holding of a meeting at which it was decided to change their meeting, day to the first Tuesday of each month instead of the second Tuesday as previously arranged, and that at the same meeting it was decided to discontinue the knitting classes. Mrs Baxter applied to the executive for monthly supply of money, viz, £9 13s 6d, to purchase wool to continue the knitting of warm comforts for the soldiers (20 head cap, 4 head belt and 6 head sock wool) and the same was granted. The following gifts were reported: Donations cash—Miss Webster £l, Mrs Lusher 7s, W. Potter is. Donations in kind—Mrs Coughlan 3 pair socks, Mrs Townson 2 pairs socks, Miss Ella Robinson 1 scarf, Mrs Mcßae and Miss Webster 1 pair mittens each. Workers of Balaclavas—Mrs Hughes, Mrs W. T. Jones, Mrs Baxter, 3 each; Mrs Perkins, Mrs Crum, Miss A. Hogan, Mrs Long, Mrs James Wilson (Frankton), Mrs W. Goldsworthy, Miss Fanny Moore, 2 each: Miss Sybil Parkinson, Mrs Kenyon, Miss Thorp, Miss Muriel Cox, Mrs Robinson, Miss E. Porter, Miss A. Porter, Mrs Woollett, Mrs Roberts, Mrs Lindsay, Miss Lucy Hayward, one each. Scarves—Miss Lucy Hayward, 2; Miss D. Sproule, Miss M. Landon, Miss Marion McClune, Miss Mona Stewart, Miss Mavis Feek, Miss Barber, Miss L. Perkins, Mrs W. T. Jones, Mrs Feek, Miss Mavis Brown, one each. Socks—Mrs Preston, 3 pairs; Mrs Barter, Mrs Legge, Mrs Moore, 2 pair each; Mrs Tanner, Mrs Porter, Mrs J. B. Brown, Miss Shipherd, 1 pair each. Cholera belts—Mrs Moore, Miss Gallaway, Miss Barber, one each. Mittens—Mrs Cowperthwaite, 2 pairs; Mrs Driver, Miss Katie Stuart, one pair each,
