CORRESPONDENCE.

"Angry Words."

[ TO THE EDITOR. | * Sir,— Although your report of the above episode at the Pukekohe Borough Council meeting, appearing in last Friday's "Times," is fairly full it does not show the actual cause, which, with your permission, I will Duw explain. After the Mayor's uncalled for attack upon myself I aßked permission to make a "personal explanation," which the Mayor granted. I took the granting as a matter of course, being well aware that a request to make a "personal explanation" is allowed wherever British justice rules, including Parliament and the Law Courts, and never had 1 known such rights to be refused. As my experience had been questioned by the Mayor it was my intention to confine my remarks to a statement of my previous qualifications and expeiience, but the Mayor, in spite of his legal knowledge of the rule as referred to above, ruled tbat if objection was made 1 could not make such personal explanation, and upon Cr Patterson objecting he Ordered me to resume my seat, attempting at the same time to over-awe me (which, fcot courap, is quite impossible his case), although 1 pointed '[out he had already given me permission to make a "personal explanation."— I am, etc., C. ROAULLY.
